Tips for improving your chip shot

There are several game improvement tools out there to help the average golfer shave stokes off their game. One of the hardest parts of any golfers game is chipping. There are several things you can try to improve your game at home, before going out and purchasing the latest and greatest gizmo to help your game. The first and most simple is to get a bucket of some sort and clear some room.

If you have a yard it will work best. Set the bucket approximately 10 – 15 yards away and chip about 50-60 balls trying to land at least ten in the bucket. This will not take into account the speed and slope of the green, but simply will train you to land the ball where you want it to land.

As you start making more and more hits, try moving the bucket further away and so on. Another cool trick is using ping pong balls. Chipping ping pong balls on your living room rug will help control spin. If you cannot get a ping pong ball to spin, it will be very difficult to control the spin of your golf ball on and around the greens.

The last and final trick is to keep your head down and focused on the target, in this case the golf ball. Make sure you are keeping eye contact with the ball at all times during the chip. Pulling your head can result in duffed or skulled chipped shots. Chip about 100 golf balls doing this, and over exaggerate in keeping your head down and eyes focused on the target.
