Odyssey White Hot Putter

Odyssey White Hot XG putter review

The Odyssey White Hot XG putter product line is only one of many brought to golfers by the Odyssey company, but the range of Odyssey White Hot Putters is extensive with 18 different models for you to choose from.

These are split into two groups, with the core model putters accounting for 11 different types, and the progressive models, which has 7 types of putter which have a more modern shape and design feature to them.

All of the Odyssey White Hot XG putters range are based on a technologically advanced putter face insert which is designed to give a much softer feel than a basic putter would. The Odyssey company state that the design was inspired by newer multi-layer golf balls which are also softer. There are two different materials used in the putter face to achieve this effect. First there is what is called an Elastometer core material which gives the putter its softer feel. Next we have a thin outer striking surface which is made of a harder material. The impact zone of the putter is textured and this is supposedly used to provide added feel to your putter, plus the textured zone also surrounds and indicates the right impact area, or sweet spot.

In addition to this mixed material insert technology, the Odyssey White Hot XG line of putters was designed to get the CG (center of gravity) of the clubs low and to the back of the club head. Accomplishing this also increases the MOI (moment of inertia) of the club and this will provide some level of forgiveness if your putts are not struck square on the sweet spot.

Odyssey White Hot XG Core

The Odyssey White Hot Putter Core Models all use the technologies described previously and the putters are all based on classic designs. Which means they are all variations of traditional blade or mallet putters. The Odyssey White Hot XG range is simply named no. 1, no. 2, and so on up through no. 9. The no. 5 putter also has a “CS” version, which means it is the same as the regular no. 5 putter but has a center shaft configuration. There is also a White Hot XG Rossi model. The Rossi model and the No. 1, no. 3, and no. 9 putters come in left-handed versions.

An endorsement for the no. 9 putter came in the shape of lefty Phil Michelson when he won the 2007 Players Championship with it. As already mentioned, these clubs are takeoffs of traditional blade or mallet putters, but they come in styles that differ from each other, with a different amount of offsets, plus different shaft placements and other features.

The most radical looking would have to be the putter no. 7, which is called a modified mallet putter which has weighted wings in the back to help with alignment of putts. All these putters come with a recommended retail price of $119 and can be purchased through a vast network of dealers or directly online from places like Amazon or the Odyssey web site.

Odyssey White Hot XG Progressive

The Odyssey White Hot XG Progressive Model line of putters uses a more modern design, especially with regard to putt alignment aids, as in the 2 Ball putters. The progressive range also has a more modern putter head weight redistribution technique.

The Odyssey White Hot XG Marxman Blade Putter has two versions :
One has a mallet configuration, whilst the other is based on a blade design. The main visual features are the long alignment stripes. The putters essentially look like two ball putters, but they have long parallel stripes rather than additional golf balls to help line up the putt. Aligning putts properly is a huge problem for most amateur golfers, and most of us have a tendency to be misaligned, leaving the chances of making putts up to subconscious corrections or perhaps just plain luck. Both of the Marxman putters have in-line weighting and full shaft offset, and both retail for around $169.

The remaining five putters in the Progressive line are 2 Ball putters, and these have all become popular with PGA Tour pros. As is the case with the Marxman models, there are 2 Ball putters based on both the mallet and blade design. These clubs both have full shaft offset, and the mallet model also has a left-handed version. There is also a mallet-type model which has a center shaft with no offset. All three of these putters retail for around the $169 mark.

The new boys in the White Hot XG lineup use a design that is called “Saturn Ring Technology”. A semi-circular ring of metal is added to the back of the club head. This approach will redistribute weight and improve the MOI of the putter. This means that even if your putt is not struck exactly on the sweet spot, the club will not twist as much and would provide forgiveness on off-center putts. There is a standard length plus along-shafted version of this design available. Both putters include a half-shaft offset and will retail for about $189.

Since most recreational and weekend golfers are notorious for hitting putts off-center or having poor alignment. The progressive models of the Odyssey White Hot XG golf putter range would be a good choice for most golfers at a reasonable price. The Odyssey range of putters could offer a solution to help players hole more putts, and lower their scores, whilst having more fun playing the game we love.
